03Technical description

The flanged Dresser coupling (flanged coupling adapter) joins a plain pipe end to a flanged valve or fitting and allows dismantling the section without cutting. This coupling type is governed by AWWA C219-23, which covers bolted sleeve-type couplings and flanged coupling adapters for plain-end pipe in water systems. The lot covers 2-1/2" to 20".

04Frequently asked questions

What standard covers the flanged Dresser coupling?

AWWA C219-23, the standard for bolted sleeve-type couplings for plain-end pipe, which includes flanged coupling adapters; the intended body materials are carbon steel, stainless steel or ductile iron.

How does it work?

It compresses elastomeric gaskets against the plain pipe end with bolts, while the other end delivers a flange to bolt to the valve or fitting; the section becomes demountable without cutting pipe.

How does it differ from a nut-type Dresser coupling?

The flanged one bolts to a flanged counterpart and is used where flanges already exist (valves, meters); the nut type joins two plain ends together and is typical of in-line repairs.

What pressure does it withstand?

No single value is published: the working pressure depends on the manufacturer design, the diameter and the mating flange class, and is confirmed per reference when quoting.
