03Technical description

The low-pressure gauge in this series reads in inches of water column (in H2O) with a capsule element: an elastic capsule that resolves pressures too low for a standard Bourdon tube (1 in H2O = 0.0361 psi ≈ 2.49 mbar). It is a dry instrument for air, water and oils.

Before using these data in engineering decisions — design, installation or systems with mechanical risk of pressure, rupture, fatigue, impact or water hammer — you must read the Technical notice and limitation of liability at the end of this page.

The exact in H2O range is confirmed at quotation: the source data sheet does not publish it.

Reference standard

Dial pressure gauges, including low-pressure capsule types, are selected per ASME B40.100-2022 (Pressure Gauges and Gauge Attachments).

For process pressures in psi or bar, see the glycerin-filled gauge or the black case dry gauge.

04Frequently asked questions

What does a gauge in inches of water measure?

It measures very low pressures expressed as the height of a water column: 1 in H2O equals 0.0361 psi ≈ 2.49 mbar. It is the typical unit for low-pressure gas networks, ventilation, burners and tightness tests.

Why capsule instead of Bourdon tube?

Because at pressures of a few inches of water a Bourdon tube barely deflects: the elastic capsule of a capsule gauge provides the sensitivity that range demands.

What range does the in-stock unit have?

The exact range is confirmed at quotation because the source data sheet does not publish it; the in-stock unit has a 2.5" dial with bottom (lower) 1/4" NPT connection and costs COP $180,000 + VAT.
