Low-to-medium pressure hydraulic hose under SAE 100 R5, with an oil-resistant synthetic rubber inner tube, combined textile mesh and steel mesh reinforcement, and a polyester textile mesh cover. Covers 3/16″ to 3″, with working pressure from 200 to 3000 psi depending on diameter and a 1:4 safety factor across the range. Service range -40 °C to +100 °C. Used in oil and lubrication lines across agricultural, automotive and industrial sectors; its reinforced textile-cover sibling (SAE 100R5 Textile Cover) lives on a separate sheet.

R5 does not compete with R1/R2 on pressure: at the same diameter, its W/P is noticeably lower (e.g. 1/2″: 1750 psi in R5 vs. 2100 psi in R1). Its case is different: the textile-plus-steel reinforcement gives a lighter, more flexible hose than one braided entirely in steel, suited to low/medium pressure oil and lubrication lines where weight and bend radius matter more than pressure ceiling — typical in agricultural and automotive work. If the system needs the W/P of a full steel braid, use R1 or R2, not R5.
R5 covers up to 3″, beyond R1's typical range (2″); at the large diameters (1-13/16″ to 3″) W/P drops to 200–350 psi, consistent with low-pressure, high-flow lines rather than hydraulic power.
No. Its maximum W/P of 3000 psi only applies to the smallest diameters (3/16″–1/4″) and drops quickly with diameter; for sustained-pressure hydraulic power use SAE 100R1/R2.
Both share the SAE 100R5 standard but differ in construction: this sheet uses combined textile mesh and steel mesh reinforcement under a polyester textile mesh cover; the R5 Textile Cover uses one steel wire braid plus synthetic textile reinforcement under a reinforced textile cover, aimed at heavy machinery. See the sibling sheet for that construction.
100 °C continuous, with a -40 °C minimum; the inner tube is the limiting element against hot oil.
Confirm the exact W/P for the chosen diameter before specifying: pressure drop with diameter is pronounced in this family.
Respect the minimum bend radius per diameter; textile reinforcement is more sensitive to crushing than a simple steel braid.
Do not substitute this construction for a high-pressure hydraulic power line on cost alone; verify W/P against the actual system pressure with margin.
The pressures, dimensions, weights and other characteristics in this sheet are theoretical calculation values obtained from nominal properties published in the standards cited (ASME B36.10-2022, ASME B31.3-2024, ASTM A106/A106M-19a, ASTM A53/A53M-24, API Spec 5L 46th ed.). They guide selection; they are not a certificate of conformity for any given lot.
The actual behavior of each lot varies with manufacturing — wall tolerance (up to −12.5%), out-of-roundness, residual stresses — and with the raw material — chemical composition within the ranges the standard allows, heat-to-heat differences. To certify a lot, the tests defined by its product standard are required: tensile test, flattening test and hydrostatic test, documented in the manufacturer's mill test certificate (MTC), which TECTUL supplies upon request; testing of the lot in an independent laboratory can also be arranged.
These values must not be used as the sole criterion in critical or safety applications, or wherever failure of the line may compromise people, property or the environment: in such cases the design belongs to the project's responsible engineer under the applicable code (ASME B31.3, B31.1 or the one governing the installation), with the design temperature, corrosion allowance and load cases of the actual service.
