PVC food hose — food grade

TECTUL · Dispatch across Colombia · Exports to Central & South America

Food hose made of soft, flexible food-grade PVC, with a transparent reinforcing spiral and a smooth interior. Used in the food and beverage industry for conveying liquid foods. Covers 3/4″ to 2″, with working pressure from 70 to 98 psi and burst from 210 to 294 psi depending on diameter. Presented in 50 meter rolls. Resistant to abrasion and to chemicals in low concentrations. Its larger-diameter, higher-pressure white EPDM rubber sibling, for food suction and discharge, lives on a separate sheet.

This technical data sheet is a reference guide to the properties of this product type; it is not a quality certificate for the product you are buying. The measurements, dimensions and physical or geometric characteristics of the product supplied may vary by manufacturer and production lot, and may even fall outside the cited standards. If any of these figures is critical to your design or build, verify it with one of our advisors against the physical product or the lot's mill certificate, so you can be fully certain of what you are buying. · Original data sheet: tectul.com/en/conduccion-de-fluidos/mangueras/ficha-tecnica-manguera-para-alimentos-en-pvc.html

2. PVC vs. the catalog's EPDM rubber sibling

The catalog has two food hose sheets: this one in transparent PVC (3/4″–2″, 70–98 psi, smooth interior with no steel reinforcement) and another in white EPDM/nitrile rubber with a steel spiral (3/4″–5″, 150–175 psi). The pressure and diameter difference is not incidental: transparent PVC allows direct visual inspection of the food in transit — an advantage white rubber does not offer, though it compensates with stain-based color inspection — at the cost of a lower pressure and diameter ceiling, because PVC cannot carry the same steel reinforcement as rubber. Choose PVC when visual inspection of the product is a priority and line pressure is low; choose the rubber sibling when diameter or suction/discharge pressure demands it.

3. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Does this hose have food-contact certification?

The manufacturer declares it "food grade"; the specific lot certificate (FDA 21 CFR, INVIMA or other) is confirmed on quotation and is not published in the available manufacturer sheet.

What is the maximum working pressure?

98 psi at 3/4″, decreasing to 70 psi at 1-1/2″ and 2″; see the full table by diameter.

How does it differ from the catalog's rubber food hose?

Material and range: this is transparent PVC with smaller diameter and pressure (3/4″–2″, up to 98 psi); the white EPDM/nitrile rubber sibling covers 3/4″–5″ with a steel spiral and up to 175 psi. See this sheet's comparison section.

4. Application notes

Feasibility

Confirm the specific lot's food-contact certificate with the supplier before installing on a regulated production line.

Installation

Respect the table's bend radius; transparent PVC loses flexibility at low ambient temperature faster than rubber.

Design

If the line requires diameter over 2″ or pressure over 98 psi, use the catalog's EPDM/nitrile rubber sibling sheet.

5. Technical notice and limitation of liability

The pressures, dimensions, weights and other characteristics in this sheet are theoretical calculation values obtained from nominal properties published in the standards cited (ASME B36.10-2022, ASME B31.3-2024, ASTM A106/A106M-19a, ASTM A53/A53M-24, API Spec 5L 46th ed.). They guide selection; they are not a certificate of conformity for any given lot.

The actual behavior of each lot varies with manufacturing — wall tolerance (up to −12.5%), out-of-roundness, residual stresses — and with the raw material — chemical composition within the ranges the standard allows, heat-to-heat differences. To certify a lot, the tests defined by its product standard are required: tensile test, flattening test and hydrostatic test, documented in the manufacturer's mill test certificate (MTC), which TECTUL supplies upon request; testing of the lot in an independent laboratory can also be arranged.

These values must not be used as the sole criterion in critical or safety applications, or wherever failure of the line may compromise people, property or the environment: in such cases the design belongs to the project's responsible engineer under the applicable code (ASME B31.3, B31.1 or the one governing the installation), with the design temperature, corrosion allowance and load cases of the actual service. Before deciding with these data, consult our technical team.
