Chemical suction and discharge hose — UHMW tube

TECTUL · Dispatch across Colombia · Exports to Central & South America

Hose for chemical suction and discharge operations, with a UHMW (ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene) inner tube, reinforced with high-tension polyester and a steel spiral, and a green NBR cover. Covers 3/4″ to 6″, in 60 meter rolls, with a 230 psi (16 bar) working pressure across the range and 690 psi (48 bar) burst pressure, a 1:3 safety factor. Service range -40 °C to +120 °C. The manufacturer declares compatibility with 98% of the most common chemicals, subject to specific verification by concentration and temperature.

IMPORTANT
This technical data sheet is a reference guide to the properties of this product type; it is not a quality certificate for the product you are buying. The measurements, dimensions and physical or geometric characteristics of the product supplied may vary by manufacturer, heat and lot, and may even fall outside the cited standards. If any of these figures is critical to your design or build, verify it with one of our advisors against the physical product or the lot's mill certificate, so you can be fully certain of what you are buying. · Original data sheet: tectul.com/en/conduccion-de-fluidos/mangueras/ficha-tecnica-manguera-para-succion-de-quimicos-uhmw-230-psi.html

The manufacturer sheet's additional-characteristics box mentions a "maximum pressure: 320 psi" that does not match the table's 230 psi W/P by diameter; this sheet reports the per-diameter table value as the verifiable design figure and flags the discrepancy rather than picking one of the two numbers on its own judgment.

2. Why UHMW and what "98% of common chemicals" means

UHMW (ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene) combines very broad chemical resistance — similar in spirit to PTFE, though with a lower thermal range — with a very low-friction interior surface and high abrasion resistance, useful when the chemical being conveyed carries suspended particles. The steel spiral embedded in the reinforcement is what lets this hose work under suction (vacuum) as well as discharge, preventing wall collapse under negative pressure, unlike a simple discharge hose without rigid reinforcement.

The manufacturer's warning on temperature and concentration

The manufacturer itself warns that chemical resistance at elevated temperatures varies by compound: the 120 °C upper limit does not mean that EVERY chemical compatible at room temperature remains compatible near that limit. Check the specific chemical's actual concentration and temperature before using the hose, even if that chemical falls within the declared 98% compatible range.

3. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is the real working pressure, 230 or 320 psi?

The manufacturer's per-diameter table declares 230 psi at every size; the additional-characteristics box mentions 320 psi, a figure that does not match the table. This sheet uses 230 psi as the design value and reports the discrepancy; confirm with the manufacturer if you need absolute certainty.

Is it compatible with any chemical?

The manufacturer declares 98% of common chemicals, not 100%, and warns that resistance varies with temperature and concentration; verify the specific chemical before use.

Can it be used in suction (vacuum), not just discharge?

Yes, the steel spiral in the reinforcement prevents wall collapse under negative pressure, enabling it for both services.

4. Application notes

Feasibility

Confirm the exact working pressure (230 vs. 320 psi) with the manufacturer if the project requires absolute documentary certainty.

Installation

Verify the specific chemical's compatibility, concentration and actual service temperature before installing, even within the declared 98% compatible range.

Design

Do not exceed 230 psi working pressure until the discrepancy with the 320 psi figure is confirmed with the manufacturer.

5. Technical notice and limitation of liability

The pressures, dimensions, weights and other characteristics in this sheet are theoretical calculation values obtained from nominal properties published in the standards cited (ASME B36.10-2022, ASME B31.3-2024, ASTM A106/A106M-19a, ASTM A53/A53M-24, API Spec 5L 46th ed.). They guide selection; they are not a certificate of conformity for any given lot.

The actual behavior of each lot varies with manufacturing — wall tolerance (up to −12.5%), out-of-roundness, residual stresses — and with the raw material — chemical composition within the ranges the standard allows, heat-to-heat differences. To certify a lot, the tests defined by its product standard are required: tensile test, flattening test and hydrostatic test, documented in the manufacturer's mill test certificate (MTC), which TECTUL supplies upon request; testing of the lot in an independent laboratory can also be arranged.

These values must not be used as the sole criterion in critical or safety applications, or wherever failure of the line may compromise people, property or the environment: in such cases the design belongs to the project's responsible engineer under the applicable code (ASME B31.3, B31.1 or the one governing the installation), with the design temperature, corrosion allowance and load cases of the actual service. Before deciding with these data, consult our technical team.
