Steam hose with an EPDM (ethylene propylene diene monomer) inner tube and cover and internal reinforcement of steel wire layers. Covers 1/4″ to 2″, with a constant working pressure of 250 psi (17.2 bar) and a 1:3 safety factor. Temperature range -28 °C to +230 °C (-18.4 °F to +446 °F). Used in steam generation systems, industrial boilers and applications requiring safe handling of high-pressure steam; complies with safety standards for steam applications.

2. Why EPDM and not a generic rubber for steam

EPDM resists attack from saturated and superheated steam far better than NBR or neoprene, which degrade under continuous high-temperature moisture. The declared 230 °C ceiling corresponds to saturated steam up to roughly 28 bar gauge per water-steam saturation tables; at higher steam pressures the saturation temperature rises above EPDM's thermal limit, and that case requires a different construction (not covered by this sheet). The constant 250 psi W/P across all diameters — unlike other families where pressure drops with diameter — reflects that the steel reinforcement here is sized per diameter to hold the same steam pressure level across the range.

3. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is the maximum steam pressure it withstands?

250 psi (17.2 bar) working pressure across all diameters from 1/4″ to 2″, with a 1:3 safety factor over that value (750 psi burst).

How is it different from an EPDM hose for air or water?

The steel reinforcement and this sheet's specific EPDM formulation are qualified for steam's thermal range and moisture cycling (-28 °C to +230 °C); a generic EPDM air/water hose does not necessarily declare the same range.

Can it be used in industrial boilers?

Yes, that is its main declared application, along with steam generation systems in general.

4. Application notes

Feasibility

Verify the system's actual steam pressure against the declared 250 psi working pressure; at higher pressure, saturation temperature may exceed this construction's thermal limit.

Installation

Respect the minimum bend radius per diameter; on steam lines, also purge condensate before pressurizing to avoid water hammer.

Design

Do not substitute air/water EPDM hoses without verifying they declare the same steam thermal and pressure range.

5. Technical notice and limitation of liability

The pressures, dimensions, weights and other characteristics in this sheet are theoretical calculation values obtained from nominal properties published in the standards cited (ASME B36.10-2022, ASME B31.3-2024, ASTM A106/A106M-19a, ASTM A53/A53M-24, API Spec 5L 46th ed.). They guide selection; they are not a certificate of conformity for any given lot.

The actual behavior of each lot varies with manufacturing — wall tolerance (up to −12.5%), out-of-roundness, residual stresses — and with the raw material — chemical composition within the ranges the standard allows, heat-to-heat differences. To certify a lot, the tests defined by its product standard are required: tensile test, flattening test and hydrostatic test, documented in the manufacturer's mill test certificate (MTC), which TECTUL supplies upon request; testing of the lot in an independent laboratory can also be arranged.

These values must not be used as the sole criterion in critical or safety applications, or wherever failure of the line may compromise people, property or the environment: in such cases the design belongs to the project's responsible engineer under the applicable code (ASME B31.3, B31.1 or the one governing the installation), with the design temperature, corrosion allowance and load cases of the actual service.
