Polyurethane hose with copper wire — antistatic

TECTUL · Dispatch across Colombia · Exports to Central & South America

Polyurethane hose with antistatic copper spiral wire, for suction and discharge of abrasive materials (powders, sawdust, granulated materials), air conditioning systems and industrial vacuum cleaners. Covers 1″ to 12″, in 10 to 15 meter rolls. Service range -40 °C to +90 °C. High abrasion resistance. The integrated copper wire dissipates the electrostatic charge generated as dry particulate material passes through, a risk the catalog's standard polyurethane tubing hose (without wire) does not manage.

The manufacturer sheet gives nominal inner diameter per inch; the 8″ value (303 mm) is declared as it appears in the source, without correcting it to 203.2 mm, in case it corresponds to a different wall-thickness variant from the manufacturer.

2. Why the copper wire, not just polyurethane

Polyurethane is a good electrical insulator, which becomes a problem in dry powder suction: friction from particulate material against the inner wall generates electrostatic charge that, with no discharge path, builds up until it produces a spark. In combustible powders (sawdust, flour, some metal powders) that spark is a real ignition risk. The spiral copper wire, embedded in the wall and grounded at both ends of the installation, gives that charge a low-resistance path to ground before it reaches breakdown voltage. That is why this construction exists as a separate sheet from the catalog's standard polyurethane tubing hose, which does not carry that wire.

Correct grounding

The wire only dissipates charge if both ends are effectively grounded, or grounded to a conductive chassis; a run with the wire floating at one end does not fulfill its function.

3. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is the difference from the catalog's standard polyurethane tubing hose?

The antistatic copper spiral wire: this version carries it to dissipate electrostatic charge in powder suction; the standard one does not, and is meant for compressed air in pneumatic systems, not solids suction.

Does the wire alone protect against dust explosion?

Only if properly grounded at both ends; a floating wire does not dissipate charge. Also, the hose manages static ignition — it does not replace the full system's explosive-atmosphere controls (extraction, zone classification, etc.).

What diameter range is available?

From 1″ to 12″, in 15-meter rolls up to 6″ and 10-meter rolls at 8″, 10″ and 12″.

4. Application notes

Feasibility

Confirm the particulate material to be conveyed is compatible with copper-based static dissipation; for classified explosive atmospheres, also consult the applicable zone regulations.

Installation

Ground the wire at both ends of each run; do not rely on a single grounding point in long installations with multiple couplings.

Design

Do not substitute the standard polyurethane tubing hose in combustible powder suction: it lacks an electrostatic dissipation path.

5. Technical notice and limitation of liability

The pressures, dimensions, weights and other characteristics in this sheet are theoretical calculation values obtained from nominal properties published in the standards cited (ASME B36.10-2022, ASME B31.3-2024, ASTM A106/A106M-19a, ASTM A53/A53M-24, API Spec 5L 46th ed.). They guide selection; they are not a certificate of conformity for any given lot.

The actual behavior of each lot varies with manufacturing — wall tolerance (up to −12.5%), out-of-roundness, residual stresses — and with the raw material — chemical composition within the ranges the standard allows, heat-to-heat differences. To certify a lot, the tests defined by its product standard are required: tensile test, flattening test and hydrostatic test, documented in the manufacturer's mill test certificate (MTC), which TECTUL supplies upon request; testing of the lot in an independent laboratory can also be arranged.

These values must not be used as the sole criterion in critical or safety applications, or wherever failure of the line may compromise people, property or the environment: in such cases the design belongs to the project's responsible engineer under the applicable code (ASME B31.3, B31.1 or the one governing the installation), with the design temperature, corrosion allowance and load cases of the actual service. Before deciding with these data, consult our technical team.
