Plastic quick coupler — body, female shank and male shank (auxiliary water or air service)

TECTUL · Dispatch across Colombia · Exports to Central & South America

Low-cost plastic quick-coupler system for auxiliary (non-process) low-pressure water or air service, such as irrigation, washdown or shop air lines. The system has three complementary parts: the body/quick coupler (generic VT), the female shank (fits a hose and receives the male shank of the other section) and the male shank (published under the slug "Espigo Macho para Acople Rápido Plástico", in PVC despite the original product sheet labeling it ambiguously). It is a lightweight plastic system, not suitable for industrial process pressure nor for fluids that attack the plastic.

Important: Before using these data in engineering, design or installation decisions on systems exposed to mechanical, pressure, rupture, fatigue, impact or water-hammer risk, it is essential to read the technical notice and limitation of liability at the end of this sheet.

1. Technical specifications

Body/quick couplerReceives the male shank and retains it by friction or an internal lock; fits hose or a fixed system
Female shankInserts into hose (secure with a clamp) and receives the male shank from another section (VT-86891)
Male shankInserts into hose (secure with a clamp) and connects to the female shank or the body/coupler; in PVC
MaterialPlastic (polypropylene/POM depending on part); male shank in PVC
Typical applicationAgricultural/garden irrigation, washdown, low-pressure auxiliary air lines
Dimensions and pressure ratingConfirmed on quotation — no manufacturer dimensional or pressure sheet available

Do not specify this system for industrial process service nor for pressures or fluids outside the range of general-purpose plastic; for those applications use the aluminum or stainless camlock coupler line (see the FT-TC-RAC-CAMLOCK-ALUMINIO-001 / FT-TC-RAC-CAMLOCK-INOXIDABLE-001 sheets).

2. Frequently asked questions

Which part do I need to terminate an irrigation hose?

The female shank or the male shank, depending on which end of the system you want on that hose; the other end (male or female, respectively) goes on the hose or point being connected.

Is it suitable for high-pressure process compressed air?

No; it is a plastic system for low-pressure auxiliary service. For industrial process air use camlock or metal quick couplers (Foster, Chicago).

Why does the "male shank" appear under the slug "valvula-bola-terminal-pvc"?

It is a catalog discrepancy: the URL slug does not match the product's actual name (confirmed by its JSON-LD, which identifies it as "Male Shank for Plastic Quick Coupler" in PVC). It is documented here as an alias of the Rehau system, not as a valve.

3. Application notes

Feasibility

Suitable for irrigation, washdown and low-pressure auxiliary air lines where cost and lightness matter more than mechanical strength. Do not specify for industrial process service, high pressure or fluids aggressive to plastic.

Installation

Insert each shank into the hose and secure with a clamp. Insert the male into the body/female until it locks. Do not use a tool to force the assembly: if it does not fit, verify diameter compatibility before forcing it.

Design

Confirm the pressure rating and chemical compatibility with the fluid with the supplier before specifying. Do not substitute a metal process system with this plastic coupler.

4. Technical notice and limitation of liability

The pressures, dimensions, weights and other characteristics in this sheet are theoretical calculation values obtained from nominal properties published in the standards cited (ASME B36.10-2022, ASME B31.3-2024, ASTM A106/A106M-19a, ASTM A53/A53M-24, API Spec 5L 46th ed.). They guide selection; they are not a certificate of conformity for any given lot.

The actual behavior of each lot varies with manufacturing — wall tolerance (up to −12.5%), out-of-roundness, residual stresses — and with the raw material — chemical composition within the ranges the standard allows, heat-to-heat differences. To certify a lot, the tests defined by its product standard are required: tensile test, flattening test and hydrostatic test, documented in the manufacturer's mill test certificate (MTC), which TECTUL supplies upon request; testing of the lot in an independent laboratory can also be arranged.

These values must not be used as the sole criterion in critical or safety applications, or wherever failure of the line may compromise people, property or the environment: in such cases the design belongs to the project's responsible engineer under the applicable code (ASME B31.3, B31.1 or the one governing the installation), with the design temperature, corrosion allowance and load cases of the actual service. Before deciding with these data, consult our technical team.
