Bulkhead fitting kit for plastic tank — body, nut, gasket and barb

TECTUL · Dispatch across Colombia · Exports to Central & South America

Four-piece kit to create an outlet in a plastic tank's wall: the body (with an internal support flange and a coarse external thread), the fixing nut (tightens from the outside against the gasket), the flat gasket (seals between the tank wall and the nut) and a removable barbed insert (threads into the body to receive hose with a clamp). The assembly is a "bulkhead" type: the body's flange sits inside the tank and the nut tightens from outside, compressing the gasket against the drilled wall.

1. Technical specifications

BodyCircular internal support flange + neck with coarse external thread, to pass through a hole in the tank wall
NutCoarse internal thread that engages the body's neck; tightened from outside the tank
GasketFlat elastomeric ring, seals between the drilled tank wall and the nut
Barbed insertRemovable threaded part that screws into the body from the outside, to receive hose secured with a clamp
MaterialPlastic (body, nut, barb) · elastomeric gasket
Dimensions (hole diameter, thread, compatible wall thickness)Confirmed on quotation — no manufacturer dimensional sheet available

2. Frequently asked questions

Can I replace the barb with a different threaded fitting?

Yes, the barb is a removable part that screws into the body; it can be replaced with another threaded fitting of the same diameter (valve, adapter, etc.), subject to confirming thread compatibility with the supplier.

What tank wall thickness does it accept?

Not published in the available manufacturer sheet; confirm the compatible thickness range before drilling the tank.

3. Application notes

Feasibility

Suitable for creating an outlet in a plastic tank's wall for water, irrigation or other fluids compatible with the plastic and the gasket. Verify chemical compatibility before installing with fluids other than water.

Installation

Drill the tank to the diameter indicated by the supplier, insert the body from inside, place the gasket from outside and tighten the nut until the gasket compresses without deforming the tank wall. Thread the barb from the outside and secure the hose with a clamp.

Design

Confirm the drilling diameter, compatible wall thickness range and chemical compatibility of the plastic and gasket with the fluid with the supplier before installing.

4. Technical notice and limitation of liability

The pressures, dimensions, weights and other characteristics in this sheet are theoretical calculation values obtained from nominal properties published in the standards cited (ASME B36.10-2022, ASME B31.3-2024, ASTM A106/A106M-19a, ASTM A53/A53M-24, API Spec 5L 46th ed.). They guide selection; they are not a certificate of conformity for any given lot.

The actual behavior of each lot varies with manufacturing — wall tolerance (up to −12.5%), out-of-roundness, residual stresses — and with the raw material — chemical composition within the ranges the standard allows, heat-to-heat differences. To certify a lot, the tests defined by its product standard are required: tensile test, flattening test and hydrostatic test, documented in the manufacturer's mill test certificate (MTC), which TECTUL supplies upon request; testing of the lot in an independent laboratory can also be arranged.

These values must not be used as the sole criterion in critical or safety applications, or wherever failure of the line may compromise people, property or the environment: in such cases the design belongs to the project's responsible engineer under the applicable code (ASME B31.3, B31.1 or the one governing the installation), with the design temperature, corrosion allowance and load cases of the actual service. Before deciding with these data, consult our technical team.
