Bronze tee with three hose barbs — no thread (B3)

Bronze tee with a barbed spigot on all three ports, with no thread on any of them: all three insert under pressure into flexible hose and are secured with a clamp. The manufacturer catalog calls it "B3 - Hose Tee" and its standard template cites ANSI/ASME B1.20.1 generically for the whole B series, but the photographed geometry and the dimensional table confirm all three ports are smooth barbed spigots, not thread — a point this sheet corrects against that template.

2. Correction: not an NPT connection

The source manufacturer sheet reuses for the B3 the same "Design standards: NPT threaded connection per ANSI/ASME B1.20.1" box used across the whole B series of bronze fittings. That box is a template shared by the line and does not apply to this specific product: the cross-section view, the fitting's photograph and the dimensional table (columns D, L1, L2 with no thread measurement) consistently show a smooth barbed spigot on all three ports, with no thread crest. This sheet documents the actual geometry (barb + clamp) and does not repeat the source template's NPT reference.

3. Frequently asked questions

Can I thread this tee into an NPT-threaded fitting?

No. All three ports are smooth barbed spigots for insertion into flexible hose; they have no thread crest. If you need to connect to a threaded fitting, use a tee from the threaded series (B101) or a hose-to-NPT male/female adapter.

Do I need a clamp on all three ports?

Yes. The barb alone neither seals nor retains the hose under pressure; each of the three ports requires its own clamp sized to the outer diameter of the installed hose.

Why does the manufacturer sheet mention an NPT standard if it has no thread?

It is a design template reused across the whole B bronze series; it does not apply to this specific product, as documented in section 2 of this sheet.

4. Application notes

Feasibility

Suitable for branching a low-pressure flexible water or air hose line in 3/16″–1/2″. Not suitable for direct threaded connection to rigid pipe or NPT fittings.

Installation

Insert the hose fully onto the barbed spigot on each of the three ports and secure with a worm-drive or ear-type clamp sized to the hose's outer diameter. Verify the hose's inner diameter matches the D in the table; a hose wider than the barb will not seal.

Design

Do not specify this tee where the system requires a permanent threaded connection: it is a barb fitting for flexible hose, not an NPT fitting. Actual working pressure is limited by the installed hose and clamp, not by the bronze body; confirm the specific hose's rating with your supplier.

5. Technical notice and limitation of liability

The pressures, dimensions, weights and other characteristics in this sheet are theoretical calculation values obtained from nominal properties published in the standards cited (ASME B36.10-2022, ASME B31.3-2024, ASTM A106/A106M-19a, ASTM A53/A53M-24, API Spec 5L 46th ed.). They guide selection; they are not a certificate of conformity for any given lot.

The actual behavior of each lot varies with manufacturing — wall tolerance (up to −12.5%), out-of-roundness, residual stresses — and with the raw material — chemical composition within the ranges the standard allows, heat-to-heat differences. To certify a lot, the tests defined by its product standard are required: tensile test, flattening test and hydrostatic test, documented in the manufacturer's mill test certificate (MTC), which TECTUL supplies upon request; testing of the lot in an independent laboratory can also be arranged.

These values must not be used as the sole criterion in critical or safety applications, or wherever failure of the line may compromise people, property or the environment: in such cases the design belongs to the project's responsible engineer under the applicable code (ASME B31.3, B31.1 or the one governing the installation), with the design temperature, corrosion allowance and load cases of the actual service.
