The grooved mechanical tee is a ductile iron (ASTM A536) branch fitting that mounts by clamping around the main pipe over a hole cut on site, without welding and without cutting or grooving the main pipe. The outlet provides a grooved (or threaded, depending on model) connection for the branch, and sealing is done by an elastomeric gasket housed in the casing.
The grooved joint of the system corresponds to the joining method of AWWA C606 (Grooved and Shouldered Joints). In fire protection networks, fittings must be UL/FM listed products installed per NFPA 13 (2025 edition); the working pressure of each diameter-outlet combination is defined by the manufacturer’s listing, so it is confirmed when quoting. Compared with a standard grooved tee, the mechanical tee avoids cutting the pipe and grooving two ends: it only requires the hole with the diameter the manufacturer specifies for each outlet.
| Characteristic | Specification |
|---|---|
| Body | Ductile iron per ASTM A536 |
| Mounting | Over a hole cut in the main pipe, two-piece bolted casing |
| Joining system | Grooved joint per AWWA C606 |
| Gasket | Elastomeric, EPDM typical for water — compound per manufacturer, confirmed when quoting |
| Fire protection service | Requires UL/FM listed product installed per NFPA 13 (2025 ed.) — confirm lot listing when quoting |
| Working pressure | Per the manufacturer’s listing by diameter — confirmed when quoting |

We dispatch grooved mechanical tees to Bogotá, Medellín, Cali, Barranquilla and all of Colombia. Request a quote via WhatsApp indicating main x branch size, outlet type, fluid, and whether the project requires UL/FM listing to confirm availability and price.
The price depends on the main x branch combination, outlet type, and quantity. TECTUL quotes per unit with the project data.
The mechanical tee installs over a hole in the continuous pipe, clamping it with a bolted casing; the standard tee requires cutting the pipe and grooving the ends with couplings on each branch.
Yes, provided the product is UL/FM listed and installed per NFPA 13 (2025 edition). The listing of the specific lot is confirmed when quoting.
The working pressure is defined by the manufacturer’s listing for each diameter and outlet type; we do not publish a single value. It is confirmed with the manufacturer’s data sheet when quoting.
The main pipe is drilled to the diameter specified by the manufacturer, the edge is cleaned, the gasket and casing are positioned, and the bolts are tightened alternately to the specified torque; then it is hydrostatically tested.
Yes. We dispatch to Bogotá, Medellín, Cali, Barranquilla and all of Colombia, coordinating transport according to volume, weight, and urgency of the order.

The dimensions, thicknesses, pressures, temperatures and other characteristics stated in this data sheet are theoretical nominal reference values, compiled from publicly available technical sources: international standards (ASME, ASTM, API, MSS, ISO and NTC, depending on the product) and published engineering literature. They are average approximations intended to guide selection, not a certificate of conformity for any given lot.
Actual values may vary due to conditions inherent to the manufacturing process — dimensional and wall-thickness tolerances (in pipe, typically ±12.5%), surface finish and residual stresses from forming or welding — and to factors inherent to the raw material — chemical composition variations within the ranges allowed by the standard, inclusions or heat-to-heat differences. They may also be affected by in-service events not foreseeable at design time: water hammer, vibration, thermal and mechanical fatigue, corrosion and operating overpressures, which can cause the element to fail before its estimated service life.
To know the certified behavior of a specific lot, TECTUL supplies upon request the manufacturer's mill test certificate (MTC) issued per the product standard; for critical applications, laboratory testing of the lot can also be arranged. In the absence of such certification, the data provided here must not be used as the sole criterion in critical or safety applications, or wherever the integrity of the line may compromise the lives of people or property; in such cases, consult our technical team first.
