The Zinc Plated UNC Lock Nut is an industrial nut for mechanical equipment, light structures, guards, supports and machinery maintenance. It is made from zinc plated carbon steel and works with UNC thread; where applicable, the reference is related to UNC thread. Its main difference is coarse inch thread with a nylon insert for joints subject to moderate vibration. UNC is coarse thread and UNF is fine thread; they are not interchangeable even if the nominal diameter is the same.
Clean the thread, confirm diameter and pitch, start threading by hand and tighten with the proper tool according to the torque defined for the assembly.
Take the nominal diameter and pitch of the male thread. In inch threads, distinguish UNC from UNF; in metric, confirm the pitch indicated in millimeters.
It depends on the material and coating. Stainless steel and hot-dip galvanized finishes better resist exposure; zinc plated, black or black oxide finishes are recommended for protected environments.
