The 201 stainless steel sheet 2B finish is an economical option for light fabrication, interior cladding, furniture, cabinets, trays, decorative pieces, and work where the environment does not require the same corrosion resistance as 304. AISI 201 belongs to the 200-series austenitic family, with a composition different from 304; therefore it can be attractive by cost, but it must be specified carefully in wet, chemical, or frequently washed areas. The 2B finish is a cold rolled, matte, uniform surface referenced in ASTM A480 nomenclature for stainless flat products. Compared with 304 2B sheet, this reference differs by material and target application: it is recommended for dry interiors or moderate demand, not as an automatic substitute for 304 in food, outdoor, or corrosive service.

201 is a more economical alternative for interiors and low aggressiveness. 304 offers better overall performance against corrosion and washing.
It is cut, bent, and fastened like thin stainless sheet, taking care of the visible face and using clean tools to avoid ferrous contamination.
It is not the first option for outdoor service or demanding humid environments. For those conditions, 304 or another alloy should be evaluated according to the case.
It should only be used if the design, cleaning, and environment allow it. For higher sanitary demand, 304 is normally evaluated.

Actual values may vary due to conditions inherent to the manufacturing process — dimensional and thickness tolerances, surface finish and residual stresses from rolling or forming — and to factors inherent to the raw material — chemical composition variations within the ranges allowed by the standard, inclusions or heat-to-heat differences.
