The 304 stainless steel sheet #1 finish is an AISI 304 hot rolled, annealed, and pickled sheet or plate designed for industrial fabrication where mechanical performance and corrosion resistance matter more than decorative appearance. It is used in tanks, bases, supports, special flanges, cut parts, reinforcements, heavy trays, and equipment subjected to washing or moderately corrosive environments. Unlike 2B finish, which is cold rolled and visually finer, #1 is associated with greater thicknesses and stainless structural or platework fabrication. 304 is austenitic, weldable with suitable procedure, and widely used in food, light chemical, and maintenance industries. ASTM A480 serves as a public reference for general requirements for stainless flat products and finish nomenclature; selection must be defined by drawing, thickness, fabrication, environment, and certificate requirements.
