90° elbow in cast brass bronze, with female NPT thread on both ends, for direction changes in low-pressure water and air lines. It is a class 125 fitting per ASME B16.15: 200 psi (13.8 bar) cold with water, oil or non-flammable gas up to 66 °C, and 125 psi with saturated steam. The TECTUL catalog offers it in 1/8″, 1/4″, 3/8″ and 1/2″; the manufacturer only publishes verified dimensions and weight for 1/8″ and 1/4″— the two larger references are confirmed on quotation.

2. Engineering calculations: correct rating reading

Converting the catalog rating

The 200 psi rating published for ASME B16.15 class 125 is a cold gauge pressure (≤66 °C). Direct unit conversion:

  1. Catalog figure: 200 psi at ≤66 °C.
  2. Conversion to bar: 200 psi × 0.06895 bar/psi = 13.79 bar ≈ 13.8 bar.
  3. Conversion to kgf/cm²: 200 psi × 0.0703 kgf/cm²/psi = 14.06 kgf/cm².
  4. Saturated steam: the same body drops to 125 psi (8.6 bar) because steam demands an extra safety margin over cold water at the same nominal pressure — standard MSS/ASME practice for threaded bronze fittings.

What this figure does NOT cover

200 psi is a single point at room temperature. Above 66 °C, ASME B16.15 requires a manufacturer-specific derating curve not published in the available dimensional sheet; for design temperatures above 66 °C, request the full pressure-temperature curve before specifying.

3. Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between this elbow and the B116 street elbow?

The B100 has female thread on both ends (two pipes enter it). The B116 is a "street elbow": one end is male thread and the other female, meant to screw directly into another fitting without an intermediate nipple. They are different catalog items, not aliases.

Is this elbow suitable for 150 psi compressed air?

Yes, 150 psi is below its 200 psi (13.8 bar) room-temperature rating. Also verify the thread sealant is compatible with compressed air and any lubricant oil carried in the line.

Why do the 3/8″ and 1/2″ sizes have no dimensional table?

The manufacturer only published verified dimensions and weight for 1/8″ and 1/4″ in the source sheet; the larger TECTUL catalog references are made to order and their exact dimensions are confirmed on quotation.

Can it be used with steam?

Yes, up to 125 psi (8.6 bar) saturated steam, which is the class 125 reduced rating for that service — do not use the 200 psi figure for steam.

4. Application notes

Feasibility

Suitable for water, compressed air and oil at low pressure (≤200 psi/13.8 bar cold) in building, pneumatic and minor hydraulic installations. Do not use for potable water if the application requires specific NSF/ANSI 61 certification (not declared in the available manufacturer sheet), nor with fluids corrosive to the bronze's copper/zinc.

Installation

Seal the NPT thread with PTFE tape or a service-fluid-compatible sealant. Always hold by the fitting's hex or body, never by the adjacent pipe, when tightening. Do not exceed the pipe manufacturer's recommended torque: bronze is softer than steel and the thread can deform from over-tightening.

Design

Use the 200 psi (13.8 bar) rating only for cold service (≤66 °C) with water, oil or non-flammable gas; for steam use 125 psi. For design temperatures above 66 °C, request the full pressure-temperature curve from the manufacturer before specifying, since it is not published in the available dimensional sheet. Final diameter and fitting selection is the responsibility of the line designer.

5. Technical notice and limitation of liability

The pressures, dimensions, weights and other characteristics in this sheet are theoretical calculation values obtained from nominal properties published in the standards cited (ASME B36.10-2022, ASME B31.3-2024, ASTM A106/A106M-19a, ASTM A53/A53M-24, API Spec 5L 46th ed.). They guide selection; they are not a certificate of conformity for any given lot.

The actual behavior of each lot varies with manufacturing — wall tolerance (up to −12.5%), out-of-roundness, residual stresses — and with the raw material — chemical composition within the ranges the standard allows, heat-to-heat differences. To certify a lot, the tests defined by its product standard are required: tensile test, flattening test and hydrostatic test, documented in the manufacturer's mill test certificate (MTC), which TECTUL supplies upon request; testing of the lot in an independent laboratory can also be arranged.

These values must not be used as the sole criterion in critical or safety applications, or wherever failure of the line may compromise people, property or the environment: in such cases the design belongs to the project's responsible engineer under the applicable code (ASME B31.3, B31.1 or the one governing the installation), with the design temperature, corrosion allowance and load cases of the actual service.
