It works by pressure differential: flow in the correct direction pushes the disc open, and when flow reverses the disc returns to the seat and closes the passage automatically. It requires no manual operation or external power.
The practical limit of rigid PVC in conveyance is 60 °C (140 °F); above that, the material loses pressure capacity rapidly. For hot lines, metallic materials or CPVC are used.
