The bronze foot valve with yellow plastic strainer is a check valve installed at the bottom end of the pump suction line: it keeps the water column primed when the pump stops, and the strainer blocks coarse solids. Bronze body, yellow plastic strainer, sizes from 1" to 4".
| Feature | Specification |
|---|---|
| Function | Suction retention + coarse screening: keeps the pump primed and blocks solids |
| Check element | Bronze check — same logic as the bronze check valves of MSS SP-80-2019; the foot valve as an assembly carries no marked class, lot pressure confirmed when quoting |
| Body | Bronze — ASTM B62 casting usual for the type; lot alloy confirmed when quoting |
| Strainer | Plastic (yellow), protection against coarse solids; it does not replace a fine filter |
| Connection | Female thread; lot standard confirmed (NPT per ASME B1.20.1-2013 (R2018) is usual) |
| Lot sizes | 1", 1-1/4", 1-1/2", 2", 2-1/2", 3", 4" (7 sizes) |
| Mounting | Vertical, submerged at the bottom end of the suction line |

It keeps the prime: when the pump stops, the check closes and the water column stays in the suction pipe, so the pump does not start dry. The strainer also keeps out coarse solids that would damage the impeller.
The plastic strainer does not corrode in aggressive water or under permanent humidity, which is the normal condition of a submerged suction; the metal one is preferred where mechanical impact is a risk. Both screen coarse solids only.
By the pump suction line size: the lot covers 1" to 4" in female thread. Reducing the suction diameter increases head loss and promotes pump cavitation.
The price is per unit and depends on the size (1" to 4") and quantity. TECTUL quotes via WhatsApp with the actual suction diameter and water type.

The dimensions, thicknesses, pressures, temperatures and other characteristics stated in this data sheet are theoretical nominal reference values, compiled from publicly available technical sources: international standards (ASME, ASTM, API, MSS, ISO and NTC, depending on the product) and published engineering literature. They are average approximations intended to guide selection, not a certificate of conformity for any given lot.
Actual values may vary due to conditions inherent to the manufacturing process — dimensional and wall-thickness tolerances (in pipe, typically ±12.5%), surface finish and residual stresses from forming or welding — and to factors inherent to the raw material — chemical composition variations within the ranges allowed by the standard, inclusions or heat-to-heat differences. They may also be affected by in-service events not foreseeable at design time: water hammer, vibration, thermal and mechanical fatigue, corrosion and operating overpressures, which can cause the element to fail before its estimated service life.
To know the certified behavior of a specific lot, TECTUL supplies upon request the manufacturer's mill test certificate (MTC) issued per the product standard; for critical applications, laboratory testing of the lot can also be arranged. In the absence of such certification, the data provided here must not be used as the sole criterion in critical or safety applications, or wherever the integrity of the line may compromise the lives of people or property; in such cases, consult our technical team first.
