The Grade 2 Zinc Plated UNF Hex Nut is an industrial nut for maintenance, light assemblies, equipment with fine-thread fasteners and industrial replacement. It is made from zinc plated carbon steel and works with UNF thread; where applicable, the reference is related to SAE J995 grade 2. Its main difference is grade 2 with fine UNF thread and zinc plating for general service in inch fasteners. UNF is fine thread; UNC is coarse thread. The size must be validated against the bolt pitch.
Clean the thread, confirm diameter and pitch, start threading by hand and tighten with the proper tool according to the torque defined for the assembly.
Take the nominal diameter and pitch of the male thread. In inch threads, distinguish UNC from UNF; in metric, confirm the pitch indicated in millimeters.
It depends on the material and coating. Stainless steel and hot-dip galvanized finishes better resist exposure; zinc plated, black or black oxide finishes are recommended for protected environments.
