The Grade 8 UNF Hex Nut is an industrial nut for machinery, heavy automotive, industrial equipment and replacement of fine-pitch fasteners. It is made from grade 8 carbon steel and works with UNF thread; where applicable, the reference is related to SAE J995 grade 8. Its main difference is grade 8 in fine UNF thread for high-demand SAE assemblies. Both are grade 8; UNF is fine pitch and UNC is coarse pitch. Compatibility is defined by the male thread.
Clean the thread, confirm diameter and pitch, start threading by hand and tighten with the proper tool according to the torque defined for the assembly.
Take the nominal diameter and pitch of the male thread. In inch threads, distinguish UNC from UNF; in metric, confirm the pitch indicated in millimeters.
It depends on the material and coating. Stainless steel and hot-dip galvanized finishes better resist exposure; zinc plated, black or black oxide finishes are recommended for protected environments.
