01Technical description

Rubber-jacketed flexible cord is a multiconductor cable type SJT (300 V) or ST/SOOW (600 V) per UL 62, for connecting portable and mobile equipment per NTC 2050 article 400. It spans 18 to 6 AWG in 2-, 3- and 4-conductor configurations.

The 3x and 4x rubber-sheathed flexible cable is a multi-conductor flexible cord for industrial extensions, controlled temporary supply and connection of mobile equipment. The lot records SJT/ST type references, 2x, 3x and 4x configurations, and gauges from 18 to 6 AWG. Its rubber-sheathed jacket helps with frequent handling and moderate abrasion, but the application must be reviewed against environment, temperature, oil presence, humidity, traffic and mechanical stress. It differs from THHN/THWN cable because it is not installed as an individual conductor inside conduit; it comes with a common jacket and internal conductors for flexible equipment connection.

Use recommendations

  • Choose 3x or 4x according to phases, neutral and grounding/earthing conductor required by the equipment.
  • Do not use it as a substitute for fixed wiring if the project requires permanent raceway.
  • Protect the route against sharp edges, continuous dragging and crushing areas.
  • Install plugs, connectors and cable glands compatible with the quoted outside diameter.

Values from NTC 2050 table 400-5 (NEC Table 400.5(A)(1)). Type letters read: S = extra-hard service, 600 V; J = junior, 300 V; T = thermoplastic; O = oil-resistant; W = weather-rated. An SOOW cord is 600 V with oil-resistant jacket and insulation, rated for outdoor use.

02Frequently asked questions

What is the price of 3x and 4x rubber-sheathed flexible cable?

It depends on configuration, gauge, length, jacket type and availability. TECTUL quotes it via WhatsApp according to your application.

What configurations are available?

The lot records 2x, 3x and 4x, with gauges from 18 AWG to 6 AWG. Availability is confirmed when quoting.

How is it different from welding cable?

The 3x/4x rubber-sheathed cable is multi-conductor for equipment supply. Welding cable is extra-flexible and normally used as an individual conductor in a welding circuit.

Is it suitable for mobile equipment?

Yes, it is one of its main applications, provided the gauge, jacket and connectors are compatible with the load and environment.

How should it be installed or mounted?

It must be free of mechanical tension at terminals, with suitable cable glands, abrasion protection and periodic inspection of jacket and connectors.

Can I order it by the meter?

It is quoted by industrial line according to required length, gauge and availability. Send the estimated length to validate supply.

What does the SJT or SOOW marking mean?

They are UL 62 cord-type letters: S hard service, J the 300 V version (without J it is 600 V), T thermoplastic, O oil resistance (double O: jacket and insulation) and W weather-rated.

Can flexible cord be used as fixed wiring?

No: NTC 2050 article 400 prohibits flexible cord as a substitute for the building's fixed wiring; its legal use is connecting mobile, portable or vibrating equipment and temporary extensions.
