01Technical description

THHN/THWN-2 is a copper conductor with PVC insulation and nylon jacket rated 600 V, certified to UL 83 and NTC 1332:2019: 90 °C in dry locations (THHN) and 90 °C wet (THWN-2). Its ampacity is taken from NTC 2050 table 310-16 by gauge and termination temperature.

The THHN/THWN cable by gauge is an insulated copper conductor for power, control and lighting circuits in raceway-based industrial installations. At TECTUL it is quoted by gauge, color and length, with an available range from 14 AWG to 500 kcmil according to the actual lot data. The THHN/THWN-2 reference points to thermoplastic insulation with nylon jacket for use in conduit, cable tray where permitted by design or panels, always under validation of RETIE, electrical drawings and protection coordination. It differs from rubber-sheathed flexible cable because it is not intended as an exposed flexible cord for mobile equipment, but as a conductor installed inside raceway or an approved system.

Mounting recommendations

  • Select the gauge with calculation report, voltage drop, ambient temperature and conductor grouping.
  • Install in duct, conduit or compatible raceway; avoid direct exposure if the cable specification does not allow it.
  • Respect bend radius and pulling tension indicated by the manufacturer of the quoted cable.
  • Mark phases, neutral and ground/earth according to the drawing and verify continuity before energizing.

02Frequently asked questions

What is the price of THHN/THWN cable by gauge?

We do not publish a fixed price because it changes by gauge, color, length, availability and copper conditions. TECTUL quotes via WhatsApp with your project data.

What gauges are handled for this THHN/THWN cable?

The lot records availability from 14 AWG to 500 kcmil. Final confirmation depends on requested gauge, color and length.

How is it different from 3x and 4x rubber-sheathed flexible cable?

THHN/THWN is a conductor for raceway installation. Rubber-sheathed cable is a multi-conductor flexible cord for extensions or connection of mobile equipment.

Is it suitable for industrial power and control?

Yes, it is used in industrial power, control and lighting when the electrical design, raceway and protection comply with RETIE and the applicable standard.

How is it installed correctly?

It must be installed in an approved raceway or system, with calculated gauge, suitable terminal, conductor identification and continuity and insulation tests before energizing.

Does TECTUL dispatch this cable outside Bogotá?

Yes. We dispatch to Bogotá, Medellín, Cali, Barranquilla and other cities in Colombia according to availability and logistics scheduling.

What copper size do I need for 100 A?

3 AWG with 75 °C terminations (100 A per NTC 2050 table 310-16); commercial practice often installs 2 AWG (115 A) for availability and voltage drop on long runs.

What is the difference between THHN and THWN-2?

The same conductor usually carries both markings: THHN certifies 90 °C in dry locations and THWN-2 certifies 90 °C in wet locations as well; the dual rating allows use indoors and in raceways exposed to moisture.
