01Technical description

A direct-on-line (DOL) starter applies full voltage to the motor through a contactor and overload relay in an enclosure with pushbuttons, per IEC 60947-4-1. On starting, the motor draws 6 to 8 times its rated current, so DOL is used where the supply and the driven machine tolerate that inrush.

The enclosed direct-on-line starter, also called DOL, brings together in one enclosure the basic elements for starting and protecting a motor: contactor, thermal overload relay and control pushbuttons.
