01Technical description

An industrial timer is a specified-time relay per IEC 61812-1: it delays the closing or opening of a contact after a control signal. It mounts on 35 mm DIN rail (IEC/EN 60715) or an 8- or 11-pin socket and covers typical ranges from 0.1 s to 10 h through switchable scales.

The industrial timer is a control device used to execute delays, pauses, cycles and sequences in electrical panels. At TECTUL it is quoted by function, supply voltage, output type, mounting base and need for front adjustment. The actual lot data includes multifunction electronic timers with on-delay, off-delay and cyclic modes, plus DIN rail or 8/11-pin socket mounting. It differs from an encapsulated control relay because the timer incorporates a time function; the encapsulated relay switches control signals without its own timing, unless it is part of external logic. In machinery panels, control, indication, protection and documentation criteria are usually aligned with IEC 60204-1, while command and control devices are selected within the IEC 60947 family.

Selection guide

  • Define the required function: on-delay, off-delay, interval or repeat cycle.
  • Confirm the control-circuit supply voltage.
  • Choose DIN rail or 8/11-pin socket mounting according to the existing panel.
  • Indicate whether you need relay contact output for a signal or contactor coil.
  • Validate whether the adjustment must be accessible to operation or protected inside the enclosure.

Mounting recommendations

  • Install the timer in a point protected from vibration, humidity and excessive heat.
  • Clearly identify supply, common, normally open and normally closed.
  • Test the cycle with the machine unloaded before enabling normal operation.
  • Avoid mixing low-power signals with power conductors without separation.
  • Document the configured scale and mode for maintenance.

We dispatch industrial timers to Bogotá, Medellín, Cali, Barranquilla and all of Colombia. Request a quote via WhatsApp with function, voltage and mounting type.

Standard timing functions (IEC 61812-1)

FunctionBehavior
On-delayThe contact switches after time t from energization
Off-delayThe contact holds and switches t after the signal is removed
Symmetric / asymmetric cyclicRepeated ON/OFF switching with t1 = t2 or t1 ≠ t2
One-shotGenerates a single pulse of duration t on the trigger edge

Time relays are specified under IEC 61812-1. Standard mounting is 35 mm DIN rail per IEC/EN 60715 or an 8/11-pin socket base for replacement without rewiring.

02Frequently asked questions

What is the price of an industrial timer?

The price depends on function, voltage, mounting type and output. TECTUL quotes via WhatsApp according to the panel diagram or required function.

What is the difference between an industrial timer and an encapsulated control relay?

The timer executes a time function. The encapsulated control relay switches control signals through contacts, without its own timing.

How is an industrial timer installed?

It is mounted on DIN rail or socket, supplied with the correct control voltage and its contacts are wired into the control circuit. The configuration must be tested before operation.

What does on-delay timer mean?

It is a function in which the output changes state after a delay counted from energization or start signal, depending on the model.

What does cyclic timer mean?

It is a function that alternates activation and pause periods to repeat a control sequence.

Can I replace a socket timer with a DIN rail timer?

Yes, it may be possible, but space, existing base, number of pins, available contacts and supply voltage must be reviewed.

What is an on-delay timer?

One that counts time from the moment it is powered and only then switches its contact: used to stagger motor starts, delay alarms and provide stabilization times.

Which socket does an 8- or 11-pin timer use?

The 8-pin socket serves devices with 2 changeover contacts and the 11-pin socket devices with 3; both mount on 35 mm DIN rail per IEC/EN 60715.
