01Technical description

The DIN-rail miniature circuit breaker (MCB) protects distribution circuits per IEC 60898-1, with standard ratings of 6 to 63 A and breaking capacities of 6 to 10 kA. Trip curve B, C or D defines at how many times rated current the instantaneous magnetic trip operates.

The industrial DIN rail circuit breaker is a modular thermal-magnetic circuit breaker used to protect branch circuits in control, distribution, automation, lighting, technical outlet and auxiliary-load panels. It mounts on DIN rail and allows circuits to be organized by poles, trip curve and function inside the panel. Its difference compared with a molded case circuit breaker is scope: the modular MCB is used on smaller-section circuits and internal distribution, while the MCCB is used as main or feeder protection. It also does not perform the same function as an SPD, because it protects against overcurrent and short circuit, not transient overvoltages. To select it, circuit current, voltage, number of poles, trip curve, required breaking capacity, load type and coordination with main protections are reviewed.
