01Technical description

The tubular splice connector joins two copper cable ends butt-to-butt through a tinned-copper barrel crimped by compression, per UL 486A-486B. The finished splice is insulated with self-fusing tape or heat-shrink tubing until the cable's insulation level (600 V) is restored.

The tubular splice connector is a compression barrel used to join ends of copper power cables in repairs, extensions and electrical installations where mechanical and electrical continuity are required. Unlike the copper compression lug, it does not terminate the cable in an eye for a bolt; it joins cable to cable and must then be insulated according to the circuit service level. At TECTUL it is quoted for copper power splices, insulatable with tape or heat-shrink tubing according to the application. Correct selection depends on conductor gauge, cable type, space in the raceway or panel and available crimping tool. It should not be used as a substitute for an eye lug or as an improvised adapter for aluminum.
