IMC is intermediate metal conduit of galvanized steel, threaded, per UL 1242 / ANSI C80.6, with a thicker wall than EMT and lower weight than rigid metal conduit (RMC). It is installed per NTC 2050 article 342, in 3.05 m lengths with tapered NPT threads.

IMC is manufactured in trade sizes 1/2" to 4", in 3.05 m (10 ft) lengths with tapered NPT thread per ASME B1.20.1.
IMC conduit is an intermediate metal raceway, threaded and thicker than EMT, used for industrial electrical installations where higher mechanical strength, better protection for the wiring run and performance in demanding or outdoor environments are required.
