01Technical description

IMC is intermediate metal conduit of galvanized steel, threaded, per UL 1242 / ANSI C80.6, with a thicker wall than EMT and lower weight than rigid metal conduit (RMC). It is installed per NTC 2050 article 342, in 3.05 m lengths with tapered NPT threads.

IMC is manufactured in trade sizes 1/2" to 4", in 3.05 m (10 ft) lengths with tapered NPT thread per ASME B1.20.1.

IMC conduit is an intermediate metal raceway, threaded and thicker than EMT, used for industrial electrical installations where higher mechanical strength, better protection for the wiring run and performance in demanding or outdoor environments are required. At TECTUL it is quoted as an industrial line for projects that should not be solved with light-duty conduit when the environment, exposure or technical specification calls for a more robust raceway. It differs from EMT conduit because IMC allows threaded couplings and offers a heavier body for runs exposed to impact, weather or installation demands; and it differs from flexible conduit because it remains a rigid raceway for main runs, not a moving final connection.
